10 Movies Similar to Inception

In Christopher Nolan’s stunning collection of films, there are many projects that have become cult almost immediately after the premiere.

One of them is a fantastic detective story about a man who is able to penetrate other people’s dreams and extract important ideas from them. For fans of puzzles and pictures about lucid dreams, we suggest that you study the list of films similar to Inception.

Cell (2000)

Carl is a maniac who preys on young ladies. He places them in a room that slowly fills with water, and for the next 40 hours, the unfortunate have to wait for inevitable death. After kidnapping another victim, the killer falls into a coma, and now the police have several hours to search for the locked woman. Psychiatrist Katherine has developed a technique that helps to penetrate into someone else’s mind, and it is she who will look into the inner world of Karl.

The main similarity of the plots is in the extraction of the necessary information by the key characters through the consciousness of another person. As in Inception, in The Cage, the hero risks being left in another dimension if the plan doesn’t work.

Lucid Dreaming (2017)

A few years ago, Tae-ho’s son was kidnapped right from an amusement park. The police were never able to find the child or any lead. A desperate father decides to experiment: he uses the method of lucid dreaming to return to the day of the tragedy and understand what exactly happened then.

First of all, the film is similar to Inception in its concept: the protagonist must fall asleep in order to find out the facts he needs. His personal interest in dangerous experiments is also obvious.

Once in a mental institution, Jack undergoes a series of experimental treatments.

Like Cobb, falling asleep, Jack sees dreams that are very close to reality and can change not only his life, but also the fate of another person.

Source Code (2011)

Colter is a soldier who mysteriously moves into the past: his consciousness enters the body of an unknown person who recently died as a result of a terrorist attack. Again and again, he is transferred to the train car, but after a few minutes it explodes. Coulter realizes that this limited time is his chance to find the terrorist.

Movies like “Inception” and “Source Code” are similar in their idea: the character intends to understand important events and remove the necessary data from them, seeing the situation “through other people’s eyes.”

The guy understands with horror that the peculiarity of the program is that it is indistinguishably similar to reality.

In certain scenes, the similarity of the plots is obvious: the hero does not always realize when he is in real life, and when he is in another reality. For the main characters, the situation turns into a mortal risk.

Remember (2000)

Leonard Shelby has a serious problem: he always remembers only the last minutes or hours of his life, as well as the period before the fight with an unknown criminal. As a result of the attack, Shelby’s wife died, and he himself was seriously injured, provoking bouts of amnesia. He wants to find the killer, and in order not to forget about the evidence already found, Leonard leaves notes for himself and makes tattoos on his body understandable only to himself.

While Cobb needs to go through several levels of sleep to figure out how to proceed, similarly Leonard hopes to sort through his memories to take the next step. The film is similar to Inception in that the lead character, while taking desperate action, is similarly driven by drama in his personal life.

A company of medical students wants to find out what happens to a person after death. To satisfy their curiosity, they have to go on a desperate experiment: temporarily stop each other’s heart in order to achieve clinical death. Believing that the experiments carried out did not bring results, friends do not suspect that they have opened a door that they should not have approached.

The characters of each of the films act similarly: in pursuit of a certain goal, they go into a different physiological state. And if in the case of the hero DiCaprio we are talking about deep sleep, then the central characters in this story chose clinical death. The similarity is in the collective “immersion”.

Cesar is a wealthy guy who is successful with the opposite sex. He does not seek to start a serious relationship, but one day he falls in love with a beautiful brunette Sofia. The ex-girlfriend of a young businessman, beside herself with jealousy and resentment, triples a car accident, as a result of which Cesar’s face becomes disfigured.

Many plot twists make the film look like 2010’s Inception. First of all, we mean moments when the central character does not quite understand whether he is awake or in a dream. There is also a dramatic love line.

After being injected with an unknown drug, Simon realizes that he has the gift of time travel , and it seems that he can use it to prevent fatal mistakes.

Like the heroes of the “Beginning”, Simon, “turning off”, passes into another reality. Through these “journeys,” he hopes to change the seemingly predetermined course of events.

In a list of films like Inception, another no less impressive work by DiCaprio should be mentioned. In both stories, the characters have a very similar character and fate: they experienced a deep personal shock, periodically reminding of themselves with hallucinations. As a result, these knowledge prevent them from concentrating on a particularly important matter.
