Star Trek: Discovery season 5 – when is the release date?

Star Trek is one of the most popular sci-fi franchises in the world. In 2017, the CBS television channel presented a new project of the universe: Star Trek Discovery, which is already the sixth in the line. The project proved so popular that it has been repeatedly extended for a new season before the release of the already announced one. So the fourth season will start in February 2022, but a couple of weeks before the release, the authors announced that they were working on new episodes. The release date of season 5 of the series Star Trek Discovery is expected in 2023. Along with this announcement, it became known about the extension of the spin-off of the show Strange New Worlds, which will not be released until the summer of 2022.

At the center of the story is the cruiser Shen Zhou. Its crew consists of different races, which does not prevent them from being in a great relationship. The ship is sent to one of the most remote worlds to investigate the failure of an intergalactic antenna. Investigation reveals that it was malfunctioned intentionally to attract the attention of the Empire.

Shen Zhou’s team discovers an unknown object nearby, which later turns out to be a Klingon ship. The race was once extremely powerful and has lost none of its bellicosity. In the present, the Klingons gather forces to restore their status and declare war on the Empire. The aftermath of these events will continue to be told in new episodes whose release date will be in 2023.

The project was directed by Brian Fuller, with Alex Kurtzman as his partner. After the release of the first season, he revealed that it was an introduction of sorts, and the main story would continue in subsequent episodes. Kurtzman also did not rule out expanding the number of episodes in the new seasons. The release date for season 5 of the Star Trek Discovery series will be in 2023.

The Star Trek universe is very vast with a mass of inhabited worlds and races. According to the directors of the show Star Trek Discovery, they chose the Klingons in their narrative for a reason. Both directors became interested in the race while watching the original show and decided to talk about it in detail in their own series.
