The Essex Serpent – when is the release date?

AppleTV+ introduced the trailer for a new sci-fi melodrama series based on The Essex Serpent. This is the second novel by author Sarah Perry, which marked her with a slew of awards. The book came out in 2016 and became a bestseller, so a film adaptation remained a matter of time.

There had been talking of filming since 2019 and it was planned that Keira Knightley would play the lead female role, but the actress turned it down, ceding the role to Claire Danes, of Homeland fame. Her on-screen partner was Tom Hiddleston. The Essex Serpent series release date is set for May 13, 2022.

The story centers on a woman named Cora Seaborn. At a young age, she got married and found herself at the mercy of a despotic husband. After his death, the heroine realizes that she can finally do what she wants, not what his husband ordered, and decides to move to a remote town in Essex. Cora since childhood was fond of paleontology and learned from the newspapers that in these places there was an ancient snake. Such news causes skepticism, but there is some hope, and Cora, having packed her things, went to take a personal look at what was happening. The novelty from Apple, the release date of which is May 13, 2022, will tell her what she discovered.

In Essex, the heroine meets the local pastor, William Ranson. The man does not like the snake rumors as they generate blasphemous thoughts in his flock. He seeks to use God’s word to combat the tales of his parishioners. He finds in Cora an interesting companion, who though he shares his views, sees the source of trouble not in the machinations of the devil, but quite material things.

In arguments with the girl, the hero begins to realize that he feels more than just sympathy for her, and the young widow reciprocates his feelings. The show will tell the story of whether the couple will succumb to a sacrilegious relationship since William is married and Cora has just buried her husband, or whether they will find the strength to curb their passion.
